Being diagnosed with sleep apnea and getting hooked up to your first Cpap motor can be a mixed blessing. There will be relief that you and your physician have finally worked out what's going on; sleepless nights, being exhausted through out the day and dreading the grumpiness of morning don't have to be normal. Unfortunately having the mask on and constant pressure isn't exactly pleasant.

On of the most noticeable side effects will be abdominal bloating. The confident pressure not only forces air into your lungs, but some of it goes down the wrong tube and ends up in your belly. Generally this is not dangerous, but merely uncomfortable. Some of the noises that you make in the morning when the air works it way out will be unpleasant for the people around you too!

So what can you do about it? Generally, if it's not a big problem then don't waste power trying to solve it. You could try Gas-X or seltzer water, which will provide relief to your symptoms. Some people have had success with a small amount of padding like a towel at the level of the collar bone but against your spine. The law is that this straightens your airways and the pressured air travels down that tube rather than through your esophagus.

You could also try sleeping with your head and neck slightly elevated. If any air is forced into your body it can flee upwards rather than being trapped by the rest of your organs. You can perform this by using pillows, sleeping on a reclining chair or by investing in a bed that allows you to set the incline of the sleeping plane.

If it continuous to be a problem than tell your doctor. The name of the condition is Aerophagia. It is not uncommon and he or she will know exactly what you are talking about.
